오답인 d)는 왜 안되는 건가요~??

d)의 경우는 해석을 해보면 If절이 가정법 과거 구문의 일부가 아니라, 조건절로서 시제가 과거인 문장처럼 해석이 됩니다. 이렇게 대면 전체 문장 내용이 이상해집니다. 그리고 there were not 다음에 부정관사가 필요할 것 같습니다.
참고로, 정답은 c)인 것 같습니다.
